New northbound lanes open on Fain Road
Prescott Valley Tribune

The new northbound lanes on Fain Road (Highway 89A Spur) opened earlier this week as a part of the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) project to widen the road from two to four lanes.

A news release from ADOT reports that the widening project is nearing completion. While the opening of the new northbound lanes originally was scheduled for last week, it was delayed because of a striping equipment breakdown.

The opening of the northbound lanes also allowed for the start of the repaving of the existing southbound lanes. The work will require a single lane restriction for two weeks during work hours, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

In addition, the new northbound lanes will be intermittently restricted to one lane for the next two weeks during guardrail and sign installation. The speed limit through the work zones will be reduced to 45 miles per hour.

The $16 million widening project began in January and is scheduled for completion in summer 2013, when crews will return to place a final layer of rubberized asphalt pavement.

ADOT is advising drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, be alert for trucks entering the highway, and comply with the reduced speed limit.
