An officer-involved shooting just before 3 p.m. Sunday at a home on Magma Drive in Prescott Valley has resulted in two people being taken to the hospital.

Prescott Valley police responded Sunday to the house for a reported domestic violence incident. As the person was on the phone with dispatchers, gun shots were heard inside the residence. Upon arrival, according to a news release, officers set up a perimeter and an unknown man came out the back door of the house and pointed a gun at one of the police officers.

The officer shot back, hitting the man, police said. Inside they found another man, whose identity also is unknown, who had a wound on his neck that was the result of an alleged assault.

The man the officer reportedly shot was treated at the scene and flown to a Phoenix hospital by helicopter. The wounded man from inside the home also was treated at the scene, then taken to Yavapai Regional Medical Center.

The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office and the Prescott Police Department are assisting with calls, while the Department of Public Safety is doing the shooting investigation at the request of the Prescott Valley Police Department, the PVPD news release states.

Further information was unavailable Sunday. Watch for details as they become available.

When my son called me to tell me what was going on (he lives on the street of the park), I was relieved to know that him, his family and no children at the park were hurt.

Kudos to the officers and responders for handling the situation in a prompt and efficient manner.

Prayers to the two that were injured and to their families.
