Ladies one up on tennis home matches

The Bradshaw Mountain Lady Bears tennis team extended their West Valley Region record to 4-1 after a trio of home matches over the past week, defeating Sunrise Mountain 6-3, falling 5-4 to Agua Fria, then starting the first of four matches in five days this week with an 8-1 win over Peoria.

Tuesday against Sunrise, the Lady Bears led 2-1 after completing doubles matches and 3-1 after Delaina Harris' No. 1 singles win.

In doubles, Bradshaw's No. 1 team of Harris and Malia Peraza won 8-2, while

No. 2 team Joylynn Sears and Cassidy Ball triumphed 8-3.

No. 3 Hailey Futral and Sarah Peakman lost 8-4.

Bradshaw' singles wins went to: Harris, 6-1, 6-0; No. 3 Peraza, 6-4, 5-7 (10-2); No. 4 Futral, 6-4, 6-4; and No. 5 Ball, 6-2, 6-7 (3), (10-8).

No. 2 Sears lost 6-2, 6-1, and No. 6 Nikki McFarland battled but fell 6-1, 7-6 (8).

After Futral's win, Bradshaw's lead was 4-3, while tiebreakers were going on for Nos. 3 and 5. Ball finished first, ensuring a team win for Bradshaw, and Peraza added the icing.

Junior Varsity lost a close match 5-4. Thursday, the Lady Owls Fria edged their hosts by winning two of three doubles matches and half of the singles.

Harris and Peraza recorded Bradshaw's lone doubles win, 8-1. Sears and Ball lost 8-2, and Futral and Peakman had tied at 6-6 before their 8-6 loss.

In singles, Harris, 6-0, 6-1; Futral, 2-6, 6-2 (13-11); and Ball, 6-0, 6-4, tallied wins.

Loss scores were: Sears, 6-2, 5-7 (tiebreak score unavailable); Peraza 6-3, 6-3; and McFarland, 6-1, 6-0.

Monday, the Lady Bears dominated but just missed a shutout over Peoria, as No. 2 singles Joylynn Sears, after winning the first set 6-3 and losing the second set 6-2, scrapped hard but fell short in the 10-8 tiebreak.

Recording "W's" in singles for Bradshaw were: Harris, 6-0, 6-1; Peraza, 6-1, 6-3; Futral, 6-0, 6-1; Ball, 6-0, 6-2; McFarland, 6-2, 6-0.

Winning doubles teams were Harris/Peraza, Sears/Ball and Futral/Peakman.

Bradshaw traveled to Agua Fria yesterday, after the Tribune's press time.

The Lady Bears are on the road again tomorrow to Peoria Sunrise Mountain, and Friday will host Prescott.
