Thursday, the Lady Bears defeated the Lady Demons of Dysart, 5-4, but the following Monday, the undefeated Raymond S. Kellis Lady Cougars remained that way with a 8-1 decision over visiting Bradshaw Mountain.
Garnering relatively easy singles wins for Bradshaw over Dysart were: No. 1 Delaina Harris, 6-1, 6-1; No. 4 Hailey Futral, 6-2, 6-1; and No. 5 Cassiday Ball, 6-0, 6-2.
Joylynn Sears lost a hard-fought No. 2 match in a tiebreaker, 6-4, 5-7, (10-5).
Malia Peraza lost the No. 3 matchup, 6-2, 6-1, and at No. 6, Athena Bowman lost 6-1, 6-2.
Harris/Peraza won No. 1 doubles 8-6. Sears/Peakman lost 8-5 at No. 2.
No. 3 Futral/Ball took their match beyond regulation to triumph 9-8 (4).
Because of Saturday's snow, the home doubleheader with Page now is rescheduled for March 18, starting at 1 p.m.
The Lady Bears challenged Kellis Monday.
Although Harris played her No. 1 singles sets to a 6-4, 6-4 loss, and No. 3 Peraza managed 6-1, 6-3, together they outmaneuvered Kellis' No. 1 doubles team, 8-3.
Sears also stretched her No. 2 singles match to 6-4, 6-4, while Ball took her opponent to the limit before losing 7-6 (5), 7-5. Together they forced their doubles match to an 8-5 conclusion.
Futral dropped her No. 4 singles match 6-1, 6-1, and Bowman lost 6-1, 6-3.
Futral and Peakman teamed for an 8-2 loss.
"Despite the lopsided final score, several of the matches were very closely contested," noted BMHS coach Scott Terry.
The Lady Bears' coach of six years also pointed out that against Kellis, one junior, two sophomores and four freshmen comprised his varsity - the youngest team he's fielded. Coupled with a junior varsity made up of six freshmen, he said the future bodes well.
Bradshaw drops to 6-4 on the season and will play host to Kellis tomorrow at 3:30 p.m.
