Bears' tennis defeats Copper Canyon, Cactus

The Bradshaw Mountain boys went to Copper Canyon March 4 and

brought home a 9-0 win.

Singles

William Waidelich 6-0, 6-0; Austin Powell 6-1, 6-1; Daniel Schmuckler 6-1, 6-0; Macklin Walters 6-3, 6-1; Donald Stielman, sophomore and in his first varsity match, 6-1, 6-1.

Austin Bowman-freshman, never played a match, played at No. 6 varsity 6-1, 6-1.

Doubles

No. 1 Waidelich and Austin Powell, 8-1

No. 2 Schmuckler and Macklin, 8-2

No. 3 Josh Miller and Sam Thibodeau, 8-1

The Bradshaw Lady Bears handily beat Copper Canyon at home the same day, 8-0.

Singles

Cassidy Ball 6-0, 6-0; Sarah Hall 6-4, 6-2; Malia Peraza 6-1, 6-0; Alyssa Turner 6-1, 6-0; Brooke Peterson 6-1, 6-0; Andrella Bobinsky 6-1, 6-0.

Doubles

Sarah Hall and Alyssa Turner 8-2; Cassidy Ball and Malia Peraza 8-2.

Bradshaw tennis coach Joe Borzello said the girls are a "Cinderella team" and have had to work five times as hard as anyone.

"They have improved so much from last year to this year. I think they are a top team, they all have a desire to get better," he said.

March 6

The Lady Bears beat Cactus on the road, 7-2.

Singles

Cassidy Ball lost 6-3, 6-2; Sarah Hall won 6-4, 6-2; Malia Peraza won 6-2, 6-0; Alyssa Turner won 6-3, 6-0; Athena Bowman 6-2, 6-0; Becca Perry 6-2, 6-0.

Doubles

Sarah Hall and Alyssa Turner lost 8-3; Malia Peraza and Cassidy Ball won 8-1; Athena Bowman and Becca Perry won 8-2.

The Bears beat Cactus at home 9-0.

Doubles

No. 1 William Waidelich and Hunter Powell 8-3; Austin Powell and Josh Miller 8-4; Macklin Walters and Donald Stielman 8-4.

Singles

William Waidelich 6-1; Austin Powell 7-6, 6-0; Hunter Powell 6-0 6-0; Josh Miller 6-0, 6-1; Macklin Walters 6-3, 6-0; Donald Stielman 6-3, 6-0.

The girls lost to Buckeye 8-1 March 7.

Athena Bowman won her match 7-6, 6-2.
