Whether outdoor enthusiasts want fishing tips or just a chance to dangle a hook with family and friends, Fain Lake is the place to be this Saturday. The Prescott Valley Police Department sponsors its third annual Cops and Bobbers free fishing day from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Oct. 13, at Fain Park in Prescott Valley. Police SWAT vehicles will shuttle participants to the lake from a parking area on Second Street.
Come fish with Prescott Valley Police officers and Central Yavapai firefighters. No one needs a fishing license and bait is available for those who don't bring their favorite kinds. The first 150 kids will receive a free fishing pole and a Cops & Bobbers T-shirt. Others can bring their own poles or use one from the cops for the day.
"It will be more of a carnival atmosphere this year," PVPD Det. Sgt. Kell Palguta said.
All comers are welcome to partake of a free barbecue lunch.
Other highlights include: appearances by the Arizona Sundogs, McGruff the Crime Dog, the YCSO Search and Rescue helicopter, and SWAT and K9 officers with vehicles and equipment. Kids also can try on the gear and climb into the vehicles.
Activities include face painting, balloon animals and a bounce house from Freedom Station. KPPV radio will broadcast live from the park, and Lowe's has donated plenty of giveaway items.
Palguta said about 500 kids signed up for this past year's event, and he's hoping for more this time around.
